Pavilion Kuala Lumpur – A new shopping haven

Come this September 2007, Malaysian shopaholics will rejoice when the mega-redevelopment of the ex-Bukit Bintang Girls School site called Pavilion Kuala Lumpur is completed and opened to public.

The whopping 3 billion ringgit project consisting of luxury residences, offices, a 6-star boutique hotel, a business class hotel, retail frontage and the most anticipated component – the 1 million sq ft Pavilion KL luxury mall, will soon redefine “living” in our beloved city.

KL Pavilion

I’ve always keep an eye on its progress ever since this multi-billion ringgit urban estate was planned until today. I know it sounds a bit crazy, furthermore, I’ve no direct involvement in it whatsoever. In fact, so much to my delight that I treated it as one of my “pet project” on SSC Malaysia forums :xd.

The irony is that to many KLites they do not know what’s the buzz all about. Well, I believe this place is gonna be one of the most trendy, most hype, most elegant shopping mall that you would want to be in KL. It’s more than our present Suria KLCC; it could be much bigger in terms of size, number of outlets and… what else? Haha you’ll know this September!

Its tagline goes like this: “The Pavilion Kuala Lumpur shopping mall will mirror the many facets of Malaysia and South East Asia, whilst at the same time become the premier showcase of international lifestyle trends in relation to fashion,
cuisine, urban leisure and more.”

This marvel is an indication to the world that Kuala Lumpur or Malaysia in general wants to be a world-class shopping destination and a shopping hub in South East Asia.

So what would you expect to see when it opens?

Based on news reports, we SSC Forumers have recently compiled a list of “who’s who” that have confirmed or might be opening stores here.

We’ve got a list of mostly branded international names that will all open their “super” flagship outlets in Malaysia inside this mall. Many of whom are not newbies. Many others are first-timers to our shore. We Malaysians certainly couldn’t wait to welcome them with open arms.

“In 6 different precincts – Couture Pavilion, Gourmet Emporium, Bintang Circle, Connection, HOME and Seventh Heaven, the Pavilion KL will house brands and experiences designed to appeal and inspire the senses. “

With 250,000 sq ft, Malaysia’s Parkson Group will unveil their most upmarket lifestyle deparmental chain right here, yes grander than the U Parkson in One Utama. TANGS of Singapore and Harvey Norman of Australia will also make their presence in a big way here.

Leisure-based anchors include Golden Screen Cinemas, Times Bookstore, Fitness First, True Fitness and the newly created Red Box Plus karaoke centre. For dining, gourmet supermarket Mercato anchors the Gourmet precinct with Food Republic as the anchor food atrium. Altogether there’ll be 13 anchor tenants.

Bukit Bintang area

Esprit will have a store spreading over 3 levels with chillin’ spots (eg cafe?) within one store! Other names with at least 2 levels, and being the first megastore in Malaysia, include Hermes, Montblanc, Escada, Salvatore Ferragamo, Hugo Boss, Coach, Burberry and Versace.

Not to mention big stores such as Zara, Bally, Tiffany & Co, Omega, Gap, Ted Baker, Aigner, Ermenegildo Zegna, Prada, Massimo Dutti, Guess, Banana Republic and many more…

First timers include Joan & David, Kiehl’s, Liu Li Gong Fang, Mandarina Duck, Okaidi & Obaibi, Reiss, Shanghai Tang, Thomas Pink, Club Monaco, Juicy Couture, EQIQ, Francesco Biasia, Bebe, River Island, Marciano by Guess and many more. Up to 20% of the total 450 outlets in this mall could be new names in Malaysia!

Local brands such as Studio R, Bonia, Padini and Voir are there to represent Malaysia in the fight for supremacy as well.

KL Pavilion July 2007

For now let us wait until the opening bell on 20 September 2007. Soon, I bet you’ll surely be impressed to see New York or Milan or Ginza right at our doorstep Kuala Lumpur.

The Pavilion is really grand and a wonderful place to shop in with all the top brands.
There is a snag. The wages paid to the the immigrant workers are at slave labour rates.
Informed sources tell me they are paid at Ringgit $600 per month with $500 deducted at the end of the month for accomodation and food.
Surely a multi billion investment with all the top shops not thrive on exploitation and cruelty.
If the Pavilion want to be regarded in equal terms as New York and London, pay similar wages!!!

    Utterly disgusted

Isn’t that always the way? The people who work so hard to make it possible don’t see but a small fraction of the profits that will ultimately come in from the mall? It’s the rich getting richer… Always the same story.. Sad…

  8. kuala lumpur malaysia Says:

Pavilion Kuala Lumpur Shopping Mall is suitable for upper class KL Shopper since the mall is full of designer boutiques. Its not meant for ordinary people in Kuala Lumpur Malaysia
